A Midsummer Night's Dream

Development of a 5th grade instructional unit where students are visually immersed in Shakespeare’s classic play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Created in partnership with the Folger Shakespeare Library, this educational Quest immerses the class in the magic, chaos, and humor of Shakespeare’s great comedy.

Students interact with the play through close reading, creative writing, acting, directing, and performance analysis, all while developing a strong set of tools to understand and interpret complex texts.

Because the play has a complex plot and a very large cast of characters that can easily get confused, we created a set of 14 lavishly illustrated character and setting cards. While reading the play aloud in class, the teacher puts the characters and setting from the scene up on the board, providing visual support for the prose.
